About Sapphire Blue

Hello and Welcome to Sapphire Blue. My name is Julie. This publication is dedicated to teaching a foundation in manual software testing.

The articles are being designed to help those looking to get into software testing, developers who need to do frontend testing, and managers who are seeking a better understanding of this craft.

Automated testing relies on already knowing the theory and having the skills for doing manual software testing.

My Background

I was first introduced to computers when my middle school got a hold of some Apple II computers (back in the early 1980's), where I first learned how to code a few lines of BASIC. GUI interfaces didn't exist back then, so we dealt with command line stuff.

Years later, I landed into the world of technology where I spent 15 years in IT Support/Operations. It is here where I gained tons of experience with troubleshooting, customer service, various computer operating systems, mobile devices, browsers, LANs (local area networks), various types of software apps, logging tickets, and got to do some basic software testing.

After and during my time in IT support, I looked into other disciplines to see which one I wanted to do next. I took classes in database design, frontend web development, Python, product management, UX research, and technical writing. I ended up landing a job as a Technical Writing which I enjoyed a lot, but fate had other plans for me.

The short version is the startup I was working for needed someone to do some testing. When I wasn't writing end user tutorials, I was creating test cases for others to follow and leave comments for while I also did the testing. The more real world experience I got as a manual tester, the more I was liking it. So, I left technical writing and went full time into software testing.

The best part is I have been able to apply a lot of my past work experiences and education to the skills needed to be a software tester.

How It's Going

As of August, 2024, I am crafting the first few lessons. I will publish each one as it is done.

🦉
It takes a village to deliver good quality software to market. Software testing plays a big part in that.

I hope that you enjoy and get a lot out of the tutorials.

Sincerely,
Julie Myers
